Hello again. The weather here is wet and warm. We hope it gets cold again. Lots of good snow though, we are able to safely run larger teams now. We were running 7-8 dogs/team, and tonight I took out an 11 dog team. We took our 8 month pups, Brumby, Hugo and Quartz to the local Carbon Hill dog race. We entered two teams in the 10 mile race. Our 13 year old friend, Jesse, entered the 2 mile junior race. In his first race he finished 4th and had a lot of fun. I hope his parents aren't mad that he has the dog mushing addiction.
Yesterday we bought 8 puppies from William Kleedehn. 5 girls and 3 boys. We named them, Rudy, Temudgin, Magnum, Briar, Scarlett, Feist, Liger, and Olive. It is fun getting to know them. So our small kennel is growing.
There is the first running of a new race in the Yukon, called the Road Runner. It starts Feb. 27th and goes from Whitehorse to Haines Junction. It is 100 miles. WE want to sign up for it.

We left today at 2 pm with 2 teams of 8 dogs for training on the lake and the Watson river south. We tried 2 news dogs, a female and a male, both sleader, with a lot of experience. They did a good job for their first time with us. The run was really good, fast and steady.

We're back after one year of silence....
Reach For the Sky and Take the Beer 22 mile poker run December 13 2009
Pierre got lucky and had the second best poker hand, ensuring him 2nd place awards. Maren squeaked in with the third fastest time completing the 22 mile mountainous loop. Pierre drove 7 dogs and Maren had 8. It was a lot of dogs first racing experience, for Marley, Morrison, Spike, Ricola, E.T., and Lion, and they did well doing all the passes. It was a beautiful sunny -20 degrees Celsius day.
GinGin 200 miles, December 28-29-30 2009, Wolverine Lodge, Alaska.
Maren completed her first race with her own dogs, exactly 218 miles, 350 km, from Wolverine Lodge to Mclaren Lodge, Alaska and back. She had a great race in 41 hours and finished third place, bronze medal and ?000$. Most importantly she learned a lot and had fun with her furry friends!
